Mrs. Kerwin, Rm. 212

Hello! My name is Mrs. Kristi Kerwin, and I have been teaching fourth grade at Field Club School for 15 years! I enjoy meeting so many wonderful students and families, and each year is its own journey. If there is anything you need, please give me a call at (402)344-7226, extension 1212...OR click on the email address to the left and send me a message. Feel free to contact Patricia Abisett in the office if you are more comfortable communicating in either French or Spanish. Patricia will relate your message to me so I can get back with you!

Schedule and Curriculum

Our daily schedule is based on 10 Cycle Days. On days 1/6, our class has art class with Ms. Hayes-Roddy; on days 2/7, we attend music class with Mrs. Lempke; we visit the library with Mrs. Cox on days 3/8 (students are encouraged to take their library books home to enjoy); on days 4/9 we have P.E. with Mrs. Parkert; and on days 5/10 we go to the beautiful, new computer lab with Miss Jakopovic! Look for monthly calendars in your child's silver agenda. Strings classes are optional, and those students who attend strings work with Mrs. Stout on days 1/6 and 3/8 for one half hour each time. Those students are responsible for making up anything in the classroom that they missed while at strings class. Field Club is a Winner's Circle school, and students will be setting goals in reading/writing, math, and citizenship each quarter. If students reach their goals, they will be recognized in many special ways! Look for new goal sheets in your student's agenda each quarter!

We are currently exploring magnets, reading comprehension, cultures around the world, math computation (long division/multiplication), settlement of Nebraska, and poetry.

Study Tips

Read for 20 minutes a day for pleasure in a quiet place. It could be a magazine, recipe book, comic strip, chapter book, or picture book. The reading material should be "just right"...not too easy...not too difficult. Practice those basic math facts: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. I have LOTS of flashcards you can borrow! Practice telling time on a face clock and counting/using money.

Why do we use a thesaurus? Can you think of 3 other words for "go"?

How much time elapses between 9:10 a.m. and 3:05 p.m.? What kinds of items did pioneers load onto their wagons? Which 3 animals were often used to pull the "prairie schooners"?
